Diet Pill Information |
Tesofensine is the name of
a drug being developed to fight obesity by the Danish Pharmaceutical company NeuroSearch
traded on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange (NEUR.CO). It is a younger drug
in its development behind that of Contrave Lorcaserin and Qnexa as it has not
yet entered into Phase 3 testing to our knowledge. It will be during the phase
3 testing if NeuroSearch proceeds with them that give us a clearer picture of
its benefits and possible negatives/side effects. Phase 3 testing will probably
be in the form of different test groups with over a thousand people taking place
on 56 week periods. Any news out on Tesofensine in the next while should be
in regards to this anticipated trial testing. If all proceeds well with phase
3 tests, then it would most likely be a few months after this point that NeuroSearch
would proceed in applying to the FDA for its approval, then more waiting
to see if it would be passed or not, in all likelihood it will be a few years
yet before we know the fate of Tesofensine. This drug was originally being developed in anticipation of treating both Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Into their research they discovered that it did not behave the way they would have liked but they did notice that patients where losing significant amount of weight during the tests. This then led developers to investigate into Tesofensine's weight loss properties. Early testing showed that Tesofensine was producing twice the weight loss that an existing weight loss drug Sibutramine (Meridia®). It also was encouraging regarding the lack of side effects that appeared and that Tesofensine has a low chance of abuse or to be used off label by recreational drug users. If these encouraging clinical test results persist into phase three trials, this drug could prove to be a real player in the anti-obesity medication field. During testing thus far over a 6 month period, patients have averaged 10.6% body weight loss and those who took half the dosage during this same time lost 9.6%. Side effects reported are those common with many other obesity fighting drugs including headache, insomnia, constipation, dry mouth and some gastrointestinal tract matters but tended to be reasonably tolerable. It will be interesting to see further test results on this drug as more research is done because so far it looks encouraging. However don't hold your breath just yet as there would still need to be much testing to determine its overall safety and effectiveness. |
